Dear colleagues,
We’re pleased to announce a new section in our re-enactments website (https://dissections.atlomy.com/): Galen’s dissection of the brain is now available at https://dissections.atlomy.com/brain-step-by-step-guide-15
by: Andrés Pelavski
Building on our ongoing study and re-enactments of ancient anatomical practices, this latest instalment walks you through Galen’s meticulous approach to cranial anatomy. Drawing from his own words we explore how Galen understood the anatomy of the brain and its components, including the membranes that surround it, its vasculature and the intricate system of ventricles that ultimately shaped his ideas about movement, sensation, cognition, and the workings of the governing part of the soul.
This section combines the original Galenic text, our interpretation of it in the form of instructions, a translation and commentary, as well as high-resolution visual footage.
