Dopo aver offerto, con il convegno dello scorso anno, un inquadramento storico e sociale, sottolineando la tensione o gli incroci tra le correnti “maggioritarie” e i gruppi marginali, si farà ora riferimento ad una Weltanschauung tipica della tarda antichità. Questa tende, in differenti modi, ad una gerarchizzazione della realtà, con l’intensificarsi di livelli multipli dell’essere, o con la complessità delle gerarchie dei sistemi gnostici o caldaici/caldaizzanti dei neoplatonici, ovvero con il moltiplicarsi delle entità intermedie. Si muoverà dalla presentazione di quelli che sono gli evidenti risvolti storici e sociali, vale a dire la gerarchizzazione dell’apparato politico e burocratico dell’impero romano o della nascente Chiesa cattolica per passare a discutere questioni più teoriche, ossia la strutturazione “a scala” presente nelle varie dottrine filosofiche o spirituali, tanto come livelli dell’essere quanto (su un piano religioso) come motivi ascensionali. Particolare attenzione sarà rivolta alla cruciale questione del ‘monoteismo’. L’approfondimento dei vari livelli dell’essere permette, infine, di gettar luce anche su un altro aspetto importante delle dottrine filosofiche, ossia la dialettica tra identità (tautotes) e alterità (heterotes), e la loro dinamica ontologica. In effetti, l’articolazione tra identità e differenza si esplica a livello del primo e secondo principio, ovvero monade e diade, nel cruciale passaggio dall’uno al molteplice.

The second meeting of the project “The Dark Side of Late Antiquity: Marginality and Integration of Esoteric Currents of Philosophical Spirituality, 2nd-6th Centuries” will be held between 8th-11th October, 2014. This conference will explore the theme of “Hierarchy”.

The previous conference held in 2013 established the historical and social context, and examined both tensions and agreement between dominant currents and marginal groups.

This conference will consider a typical aspect of the Late Antique world-view which in various ways has the tendency to discern hierarchies in reality, namely, the intense multiplication of stages of being, the complex hierarchies of the Gnostic and and Chaldean systems of the Neo-Platonists, and the proliferation of intermediate beings.

Beginning with the historical and social environment, i.e. the hierarchizing and bureaucratization of the imperial administration, and the increasingly institutionalized Catholic Church, the discussion will more strongly address theoretical questions, such as the organization of various philosophical and religious systems around states of being or – in religious contexts – stages of ascent. Particular attention will be given to the critical question of “monotheism”.

Detailed examination of the states of being enables clarification of another important aspect of the philosophical systems: the dialectic between identity (tautotes) and difference (heterotes) and their ontological dynamic. The distinction between identity and difference already discloses itself on the level of the first and second principles (monas and dyas) and the fundamental transition from unity to diversity which occurs at that point.

Das zweite Treffen des Projekts „Die dunkle Seite der Spätantike. Marginalität und Integration der esoterischen Strömungen in der philosophischen Spiritualität vom 2. bis 6. Jahrhundert” findet vom 8. bis 11. Oktober statt. Es zielt darauf, das Thema der “Hierarchien” zu beleuchten. Wurden bei der Tagung im Vorjahr Verortungen in historischem und gesellschaftlichem Rahmen vorgelegt und Spannungen sowie Übereinstimmungen zwischen den Mehrheitsströmungen und den marginalen Gruppen herausgestellt, geht es diesmal um einen typischen Aspekt spätantiker Weltanschauung, die in unterschiedlicher Weise zu einer Hierarchisierung der Wirklichkeit tendiert: mit der intensiven Vermehrung der Seinsstufen, den komplexen Hierarchien der gnostischen und chaldaisierenden Systeme der Neuplatoniker, der Vervielfachung der Zwischenwesen. Ausgehend von den historischen und gesellschaftlichen Befunden, das heißt der Hierarchisierung und Bürokratisierung der Reichsverwaltung und der sich herausbildenden katholischen Kirche, wendet sich die Diskussion stärker theoretischen Fragestellungen zu, das heißt der stufenmäßigen Struktur in verschiedenen philosophischen und religiösen Lehrgebäuden, die sich sowohl in Ebenen des Seins als auch (in religiöser Hinsicht) Aufstiegsmotivik manifestiert. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt der kritischen Frage des „Monotheismus“. Die vertiefte Untersuchung der Seinsstufen erlaubt zudem die nähere Beleuchtung eines weiteren bedeutsamen Aspekts der philosophischen Systeme: der Dialektik von Identität (tautotes) und Verschiedenheit (heterotes) und ihrer ontologischen Dynamik. Die Unterscheidung von Identität und Verschiedenheit entfaltet sich bereits auf der Ebene des ersten und des zweiten Prinzips, Monas und Dyas, im grundlegenden Übergang vom Einen zur Vielheit.
