New Books: Divination and Theurgy in Neoplatonism and Restoring the Soul of the World

Two works I have been eagerly awaiting for some time have recently come to light:

Crystal Addey’s Divination and Theurgy in Neoplatonism augurs (forgive me) a thorough and painstaking analysis of the relationship between divinatory practices and later Greek philosophy, with special attention lavished on Porphyry’s Philosophy from Oracles and Iamblichus’ De Mysteriis.

Meanwhile, David Fideler’s Restoring the Soul of the World brings ancient Stoic philosophy to bear on the difficulties presented by our present cosmos. (Why mention a work of contemporary philosophy on a site about ancient esotericism? Because Fideler was the founder of Phanes Press and the editor of Alexandria, a publication instrumental to the development of Western Esotericism as a scholarly subfield.)
