Summer School on Plato’s Parmenides, June

Lovers of the henads and henology of (Late) Platonism may find the following, featuring some of the finest experts in the field, a must-attend event.

The eighth edition of the Platonic Summer Seminar in Lanckorona (Poland) on Plato’s Parmenides will take place on 23.06–30.06.2024. We will attempt to interpret the dialogue as an exposition of the theory of principles. We are also going to discuss the implied meaning of the Parmenidean One and its dialectical relation to the Many, as well as the multifarious interpretations of the One, from the Eleatic and Neoplatonic identification “God is the One”, to the subjective, speculative Hegelian claim “I am the one, I am onefold”. A close reading of the text in conjunction with classical Neoplatonist commentaries (Plotinus, Proclus, Damascius) and modern studies (Hegel, Natorp, Heidegger, Colli, Benardete) will be complemented with lectures by contemporary scholars.

Guest lecturers: Claudia Baracchi, Massimo Cacciari, Lloyd Gerson, Francisco Gonzalez, Edward Halper, Claudio Moreschini, Carlos Steel.

Participants are asked to register their attendance by sending an e-mail with a CV and a cover letter by May 15 to platonicsummerseminar@gmail.com (a limited number of places is available).

Cost of participation: 1000 zł (EUR 250) covering full board and lodging for a seven day stay at Willa Zamek in Lanckorona where the seminar takes place.
