Sorry, we’re posting this one rather late in the game. But here it is; would suit an early-career researcher.
Three year research and teaching position at the Ruhr-University Bochum
Tasks:
– work on your research (for example, on a PhD)
– teach your own courses in ancient philosophy (a total of eight courses over six semesters, each course 2 hours per week; so it will usually be one course per semester, and twice two courses). The courses can be taught in English in the beginning, but the willingness to acquire enough German skills to be able to teach in German in the second half of the three years is expected (the university offers free German courses).
– help with administering projects in ancient philosophy at Bochum (e.g., conference organisation, help with funding applications, etc.).
You will work closely together with the chair in ancient philosophy at Bochum, Prof. Dr. Barbara Sattler.
Requirements: excellent MA, proposal for a research project in ancient philosophy, excellent organizational skills.
Workload and salary: 26 h/week (a third of which is meant for your own research); remuneration is in accordance with the collective bargaining regulations for level 13 of the German TV-L salary scale (which allows for a decent living in Bochum).
Deadline: June 16th, 2026
Starting date: October 1st, 2026.
Please send us your CV, your research proposal, a writing sample (no longer than 20 pages), copies of your degrees, and a letter of recommendation.
