In case you missed it (as I did), the first reviews are in for the new Budé editions, edited and translated by Alain Segonds (in manus tuas) and Henri-Dominique Saffrey, of Porphyry’s Letter to Anebo and Iamblichus’ Response to Porphyry (better known as De mysteriis). These works comprise of course the primary evidence for our understanding of the theory and practice of ancient Neoplatonic theurgy, as well as philosophical critique of magic and ritual more generally. The venerable John Dillon has weighed in on the editions of both Porphyry and Iamblichus in Bryn Mawr Classical Review, and both thumbs are up. Sodano and des Places have been replaced.
