I am particularly excited to have just heard of the publication of the first volume arising from the project, “The Dark Side of Antiquity” (which has appeared in this space before – see here). This volume features essays on Neoplatonism, Gnosticism, and even a bit on the whole question of what we mean by “esotericism” in antiquity in the first place:

 Vielfalt ist in besonderem Maße bezeichnend für Philosophie und Reli­giosität der Spätantike. Zentral ist dabei der Platonismus mit seinen Formen und Nebenformen, die untereinander in mannigfacher Wechsel­wirkung stehen. Dies gilt nicht zuletzt mit Blick auf Strömungen und Texte, die sich als marginal oder esoterisch bezeichnen lassen, wie Gnosis, Hermetismus, Chaldaeische Orakel etc., und die Frage ihrer Abweisung oder Integration.
